A Love Divided is the true story of Sean Cloney, a Catholic and his Protestant girlfriend Sheila Kelly who married in London in 1949. They had two daughters, Eileen and Mary who Sheila agreed to baptise in their local Catholic Church in Fethard-on-Sea, Co. Wexford. In the spring of 1957 when Fr. Stafford the parish priest insisted Eileen attend his Catholic school blatantly ignoring Sheila’s opinions all hell broke loose. Sheila feeling betrayed by her husband for supporting the priest ran off with her girls. Everyone was forced to take sides in the village, in the county and eventually throughout the country.
