Showbands II

Summary:

Ireland 1965, six months after the Golden Ballroom had its glorious opening night and Tony Golden is happy touring the high roads and by roads of Ireland with Denise and the California Showband. However, Denise is unhappy. She is fed up of playing the same crummy dancehalls and yearns for more. Tony promises Denise he will take her all the way to the Eurovision ensuring she will have a number one single all over Europe. Meanwhile at home in the Golden Ballroom, Gemma, Tony’s new fiancée, is proving remarkably good at running the venue and managing to top up their wedding fund at the same time. However relations between Tony and Gemma become fraught when Tony uses their wedding fund to buy a spanking new tour bus.

When they finally arrive at the final heat for the National Song Contest, they see Bella, Rendell’s new act. Bella is younger than Denise, taller than Denise and blonder than Denise. The word is that she can sing too. But then Gemma and Denise see Bella kissing Tony backstage: Gemma is gutted, Denise is totally rattled: she puts in a brave performance but devastated by Tony’s behaviour, she loses the heat to Bella.

Now Tony faces his biggest challenge: how can he win back both Gemma and Denise? How can he convince Denise that he can get her what she wants when he also needs to prove to Gemma that there will be more to their lives than the band and the road? But then, unbeknownst to Tony both Gemma and Denise get offered tempting chances to change their lives forever – but without Tony. Who will sacrifice what to get what they want and who will be left behind?
